Side effects of accutane
Hello Tinselites! Thanks for following me on this journey and hope my experience has been insightful to you. The feedback has been enormous, I guess I’ll do more of such.
Before I go on, I got a disclaimer; I am in no shape or form pushing this medication. I am only sharing claims on the medication and most especially my experience. Our experiences might not be the same but it is inevitable to at least have some insight, thank you!
Now this medication is a very controversial one. Usually patients are on the medication anywhere 4-6months some go up to a year and others even do a repeat. Some claim it didn’t work for them well I am glad I saw results.
Not to scare you but my 4months of being on this medication were intense. My doctor requested I take it for 6months but chilleee your girl was tired!! I guess I got excited, and content with the results I had seen and of course the money too was overwhelming lol.
Some of the side effects that could be experienced include:
Ø Mental health problem like depression, psychosis. This is very crucial watch out for any symptoms like sadness, irritability, unusual tiredness, trouble concentrating and loss of appetite. Some people even become suicidal
Ø Dry eyes, nose and extreme chapped lips
Ø Inflammation of the liver, pancreas or intestines (bowels)
Ø Bone and muscle changes
Ø Hypersensitivity (allergic ) reactions
Ø Increased pressure in the brain
Ø Hearing and vision differences
Ø Heart problems
Ø Problems with blood sugar levels
Ø Delayed menstrual period
Ø Birth defects
Ø Hair loss
Ø Skin dryness
Before I got on the medication, I signed a consent, why?
Accutane can cause birth defects, miscarriage, premature birth or still birth. So you’ll be put on birth control pills.
I had side effects as expected
Top on the list was chapped lips! OMG this was crazyyy like I had to even wake up in the middle of the night to moisturize my lips. There were days I’d have to peel off the chapped skin but funny enough I loved this side effect lol. My lips were pinky lol see why I loved it. Still on my lips I got like wounds on the side of my mouth.
I experienced skin discoloration, I became darker and my lips pink this made my face look funny, still does. I still get questions like did you change your body lotion, what happened to your face urrgh.
I also got really dry nostrils and wounds around the corner of my eyes.
I also experienced really dry skin and this was only on my face right after a wash. It will feel tired and supper shine after a wash then couple of hours later it will look dull and white.
Overall I would say the side effects I experienced were not as terrible. By the 3rd week I had started seeing results and of course side effects.
